Forest Heights Lodge

Forest Heights Lodge is a non-profit residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed boys, which includes an on-ground school, and admits boys between the ages of five and fourteen. Founded in 1954, the program has developed a treatment model unique to residential treatment and has an international reputation. The campus includes dormitories, classroom buildings, treatment facilities, a dining hall, and staff housing, all located in a spectacular mountain-top setting with views to the continental divide.

Including a standard classroom, art room, and physical fitness space, Studio DH Architecture designed a building to reflect the style of the existing campus buildings, embracing their lodge heritage. Set into a steep hillside, the grade change was utilized to partially bury the large mass of the gymnasium, allowing it to fit in with the residential scale of the nearby buildings.
